Whose was it?
His who is gone.
Who shall have it?
He who will come.
Where was the sun?
Over the oak.
Where was the shadow.
Under the elm.
How was it stepped?
North by ten and by ten, east by five and by five,
south by two and by two, west by one and by one, and so under.
What shall we give for it?
All that is ours.
Why should we give it?
For the sake of the trust.

Workschedule for people:  People who like to work at home are welcome to do needlework, female and male persons get payed for each piece they do.

Free interpretation of a simple form which is given to them as a drawing. Yarn and material is also given to them.

They all know that many other people are working for the idea of collective cooperation for a huge handmade object, that might be similar to a natural Coral Reef.

As artist I developped the idea that a work of art is never a thing of individual, only personal language, because it remains on the small view of one person, that means that I am interested to know how people see things if they have a possibility to act themselves as artist in a collective-work along a group-concept-idea.

Some years ago I did a project similar to the Lady Musgrave Reef, where people defined with their own view images from Urban Sites, that were taken as documentary black and white photos and transfered by peoples needlework to Wall-Hangings and City Scapes done in needlepoint-technic.

The Lady Musgrave Reef-Project focuses on the need of being conscious of protecting our natural Ecosytem as well as our social integrity to work together as interacting individuals and the need to create work for people that is not profit-dedicated to money economy.

Reef Ecosystem: Interactions and Energy

The coral reef ecosystem is a diverse collection of species that interact with each other and the physical environment. The sun is the initial source of energy for this ecosystem. Through photosynthesis, phytoplankton, algae, and other plants convert light energy into chemical energy. As animals eat plants or other animals, a portion of this energy is passed on.

„As we look to the tragic results of December´s 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean, we are overwhelmed by the magnitude of loss of life and property, not to mention the damage to hundreds of square miles of magnificent coral reefs. We found out that the areas that had healthy, intact reefs and mangroves suffered less wave damage than areas with dead or denuded reefs.“

Lady Musgrave Island, part of Capricornia Coast, east of Australias Coast, Part of The Great Barrier Reef is named after Lady Jeannie Lucinda Musgrave, wife of Sir Anthony Musgrave, Governor of Queensland in 1883-1888 and Lady Musgrave Island is the „Jewel in the Crown“ of the Great Barrier Reef.

The Musgrave Ritual, after Sir Arthur C. Doyle

I suppose that the family, lived in Australia, is originally connected to an old british family, one of the very oldest families in the kingdom from the sixteenth century and had established itself in western Sussex, where the Manor House of Hurlstone is the oldest inhabited building in the county.

The story told is, that Butler Brunton suddenly disappeared and was found murdered by the maid. The Butler followed a paper he found in the families heritage called THE MUSGRAVE RITUAL, nobody since 1770 had an idea what the Ritual is really saying and it was given from family to family over generations. Brunton found out, what is behind the meaning:

Whose was it?
His who is gone.
Who shall have it?
He who will come.
Where was the sun?
Over the oak.
Where was the shadow?
Under the elm.
How was it stepped?
North by ten and by ten, east by five and by five,
south by two and by two, west by one and by one, and so under.
What shall we give for it?
All that is ours.
Why should we give it?
For the sake of the trust.

Nothing less than the ancient crown of the kings of England were found under a stone to the cellar of one of the old buildings at Hurlstone. After the execution of Charles the Second, the Crown was turned over to The Musgraves and they have the royal Stuarts CROWN! Sir Ralph Musgrave as a Cavalier of Charles and the right-hand man took the jewels to protect them and the Musgrave Ritual was created to hide them. And after the the return of Charles, one of the Musgraves, held the secret, did not explain the meaning of the Ritual to his follower. Butler Brunton in 1986 found it and the Crown is still there. The Maid had watched her lover Brunton and murdered him during discovering the family heritage and because of her revenge of a misfortune love-affair. The Musgraves by themselves didn´t know what is behind the Ritual. The maid disappeared overseas.

The Musgrave Ritual is a secret that someone can only understand if he measures with nature!

Lady Musgrave Island Reef Project is a modern art piece that carries several challenges to combine human behaviour and nature communities.
